Aaliyah Dana Haughton exploded into fame in 1994, after she dropped her debut album Age Ain't Nothing But a number. She was only 15 at when the album was released and it was later renamed Gold. The collaboration that in the direction of R. Kelly's music, put her in the limelight. In 1996 she worked alongside Jermaine Dupri as well as Timbaland for her second album One In A Million which included the top-rated hit song If You Only Knew. Aaliyah was a well-known R&B vocalist after the release. In 2000 she starred in the romantic action film Romeo Must Die alongside martial artist Jet-Li. The role was offered to her after being spotted by producer Joel Silver at an awards event. In 2002, she appeared in the vampire movie Queen of the Damned based on the Anne Rice book. The Matrix Sequels saw her as Zee following her appearance on The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions that same year. Aarti Magnumdar, her formal name, but she is also known as Aarti Magumdar. While she started out with tiny film and television roles, her acting started becoming more popular in the middle of 2000s. Her other notable projects include Grey's Anatomy, Suits and Leverage. The actress has been featured in commercials of major brands such as international automobile manufacturer Volvo. She is a resident of Los Angeles where she continues to perform as an actor.
