Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents named her Winona for her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress has a younger brother Uria and two half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's parents relocated her and her siblings to Mendocino County California when Ryder reached seven. Here, they did not have electricity. Ryder would read extensively because of the lack of television. Ryder was 12 when she was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. In the year she turned fifteen, she landed her first acting job onscreen, playing Lucas. Ryder experienced bullying at high school. She hoped that the acting profession would end that. But it wasn't to come to be. Still she continued pursuing her goals. Beetlejuice, a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her debut big breakthrough. Ryder continued to play successful roles in several movies. She received nominations for two Academy Awards one for her role on The Age of Innocence (1993).
